My property has some trails which are just tire tracks worn into the ground. Can I use a box blade with rippers to scrape a real road onto the surface? Would it also work to smooth my dirt roads that have rocks sticking up through the surface?

I would try the box blade without the teeth down as it may accomplish what you need. I just hate to use the teeth on a surface that won't see a new surface material (stone) since it'll loosen your base which will make it more prone to potholes and such.

Absolutely. I did some of mine with a box blade, and some with just a rear grader type blade. Just make sure those rocks sticking up through the surface aren't the tops of BIG rocks.

3lb,

What's your goal? Is it to get a smoother ride, all weather use, or just to make the trails look more like roads?

To get the smoothest ride, fill the dips with clay and sand mix, and shave the bumps with a box blade or FEL.

For all weather use, you'll have to dump either pure sand or gravel, and even it out with a BB or RB.

PS.
I work hard to prevent my trails from looking like roads, but have to stay off them in wet weather.

Thank You for the welcome, and the input bczoom. 8NTX, you bring up a good question. Are they just the tops of BIG rocks? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'll be careful finding out! have blue, your post made me really think. ( when you asked my goals, and said you work hard to prevent your trails from looking like roads ) I bought my property a few months ago, and will have a tractor soon, and was excited about working on the property. I guess my goal was to play with the tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif There are two trails that legitemately need to be smoothed into roads, but the rest I'll leave alone. Trails do add a certain nice character to the land. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
