On my gear tractor I can turn my PTO shaft by hand (with engine off ) to line up spline with implement shaft. Can't do that on my g3038h, even with tractor in neutral. Is this typical on hydro tractors?

I suspect the difference is that your LS PTO is electrically actuated where your gear tractor has clutch actuated PTO.

My gear LS does the same thing.

It's what is called indexing, or getting a greasy hand. A very handy thing to be able to do. Some PTOs even have a brake in which case I suspect you would not be able to turn it.

Correct, it is electrically actuated. I guess the answer is that there is no way to make the PTO shaft turn in this case. It's just a pain to have to turn the implement drive on some implements to match.

A pain to be sure. My mower is so old there is enough slack in the gears and shaft that I could "probably" make it work- no on second thought it is so old it uses a shear pin at the PTO instead of the new kind with the spring lock. The back hoe, yes you can turn it by hand. The tiller- no way as it is new and there is no play at all. What does the owner's manual say?
