You guys are good to have a coyote come right in.
About 10 years or so over in Rutland,VT a guy was turkey calling during the spring hunting season,he was so good w/the call a bobcat attack him..that must have been a eye opener. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I have quite a few friend in the DEC and they told me that NY did not introduce any cats to control population. There are always some hunters that live in their cabins thinking up conspiracy therories(?). The turkey population took a big hit last year because of how wet the spring was so the turkey count was down. I always here stories about how DEC is releasing predators like coyotes or cats which is not true. Talk to your local DEC officials and they will tell you what you want to know as it is puplic knowledge.

We have a group of 30 or so wild turkey's around my place. Watching them fly is quite the treat, and do they ever have to work to get off the ground. These birds are huge!

I got one during the spring hunt in '00, but came up short last year. Hopefully, I'll have better luck this year. There was almost no fat on the bird I took, it was extremely lean.

Turkey count down? I had 38 of them under my mulberry tree 3 yards from the kitchen window. (3 hens, each with a large brood). I have too many white tails and a large pack of coyotes around too. Everyone's happy! :)

The wet spring like we had last year hurt the population, there are always going to be some that make it ok but overall they took a big hit. The rains killed a lot of turkeys before they even hatched by flooding the eggs. It is the same for the early fawns last year, we lost a lot of them from pnemonia that were born early during all the rain. Turkeys have multiple broods each year if they loose them and some have multiple broods even if they have a early hatching that makes it.
