Caught these turkeys this afternoon, and could only get about 1/3 of them in the picture. I counted about 50 of them, as best I could. Such a mild winter, and a good acorn crop really have helped them through this year. Should be a good Spring season. No Toms in this bunch - yet!

Oh contrare. Last two out of three years the turkeys were here up until the 5 day season that I had, and although I do not hunt out the window, those gobblers were not in sight any one of the 5 days. However, the day after the season, they were back. Go figure.
Fun anyway.

Now those are smart birds... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Are you sure, you weren't on our lower property taking those pictures...

A few years back, I was on an ATV going through a section of our woods and disturbed a "flock" of turkeys... when you have 50-100 get up and try flying away... it was like a mini-hurricane with the "whooshing" sound of the wings flapping... {it reminded me of like a bunch of little kids doing something they shouldn't have, getting caught and then running every which way .../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif}

Now out of about 50 or so... did you carefully check each and every one to be sure... /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Yep..know what you mean,for at times I think they know when its time to hide,also wildlife can read posted signs and head that way.

I have a neihbor that plants feed corn for his dairy cows on my land. Plants about 10 acres. It was a deal he had going with the previous owner, he fertilizes and plants every year, and it keeps the area clear. I continued the deal with him as its that much less I have to maintain. Boy that corn brings in the game. I have counted up to as many as 50 turkeys before I lost count. It also brings in a lot of deer. This past fall I noticed the migrating geese were also stopping for the corn. I am probably just going to keep letting him plant there as I like having all that game hanging around.

I bet if you were to take a walk thru the corn before its harvest,you see some bear beds as well...there easy to spot.

The have been some reported bear sightings in my area, but they are few and far between. I have not seen any sign (tracks or droppings) in my area, but I guess its posible

For the past week or so at least two families of wild turkeys have been coming up out of our bush and feeding at our birdfeeders. I haven't been able to get a picture of them and probably won't given the layout of our place but they do come right up to the house.
