I will be getting the BX2763 plow and have turf tires. I'm debating about getting another set of rear rims with AG tires. Does anyone have experience with plowing on turf tires? I have chains but have concern of damaging driveway surfaces.

Thanks.

I be guessing you are talking 'snow' plow here, not a moldboard plow for turning up dirt.
For snow, seems chains would work, and regardless of the tire style, may be needed anyway. All depends on how clean and free of ice, and frozen snow that is like ice, you can keep the drive. Chains can leave marks on the drive if they spin and slide across it.

Just put a plow on mine worked fine with 2" of snow

Last winter was the first winter for my B6100 with me, and at first I had turfs on it. Figuring I could do better, I got another set of rear rims, mounted 6.50-15 Bias winter tires on them, added 50lb wheel weights, then loaded the tires with windshield washer fluid (24 liters each tire), and put v-bar ice chains on them to finish it off.
Result was actually a bit less than I expected. It was an improvement all right, but it proved to me how well the turfs actually did by themselves.
I only have 2wd. With 4wd, I think you may be impressed how well turfs will do in snow. Hard packed snow or ice would likely be the only problem, as it would with any tire tread pattern.
Chains are a definite necessity for ice.

I think that generally they will be fine. I have plowed just twice with my BX23 so far and both times the paved surface below has been very slick and on Thanksgiving day we had 4 to 5 inches which I was able to push up a 13% grade, that even surprised me. I leave the BH on for plowing thinking that it may help with traction in the rear. They are predicting 5 to 10 here in CT tomorrow so we'll see how she does.

I use the FEL to push snow with my BX2200 with turf tires. Never, ever any problems at all. We get our fair share of snow in NH and I was concerned. But the worries were unfounded.

When going through deep or relativly soft packed snow the bar tires will be a little better but once you get to a hard pack or ice the turf will give more grip. More tread edges equals more grip on ice.

I have turfs on my B-7500 and have plowed with them for the past 3 years. I have not experienced any problems. I think you will be fine just keep in mind yours as well as mine are small light tractors, if you are expecting a significant snowfall (ie 2 to 3 feet) you will need to keep on top of it and plow every 8 inches or so for best results.

I have a BX2200 with turfs on it and I plow my driveway with no problems at all. I use my box blade for weight and a rear plow as well and the loader to finish off with. Hope this helps.

And another pic. The only minor problem I have is sometimes on deeper snow the front slides sideways a bit with the blade angled. I just put loaded bar tires on the front only, so that should help with the side sliding. It really is a minor problem that only happens on one section of my drive. I just have to take another bite and it's fine, but I "needed" to buy something else for the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif, and they were pretty cheap. The traction with the turfs is remarkebly good.

Im sure you will do ok,but with loaded ags the BX-23 IS UNSTOPPABLE!!!!!!.I can bust through a frozen banking like nothing with them. If you look back at my pics last winter youll see some amazing bankings i made,i couldnt go any higher cause the hoe would drag on the drive,at the incline i was at.

Thanks for the responses. It seems that several of you have the BH on. I will have mine off so I don't have to worry about my "rear". I have 75 lb wheel wgts so I'll put these on if traction is a problem.

I've got the BX2200 with turfs and a back blade that I've been using for snow plowing. I've been amazed where it will go. In anything less than 4" and I can plow up hill on my driveway. The 5-6" we got this weekend it wouldn't plow all the way uphill, but I just picked up the blade and plowed down hill. If I had front weights and loaded rear tires I think it would have made it plowing up hill. I plan to load the rear tires and get some suitcase weights for the front.

Sometime I need to replace or put a tube in one of the front tires, I plugged the side wall but it leaks down every week or two. I was thinking of replacing them with the Heavy Duty All Purpose tires they put on the JD 4wd X series and Simplicity 4wd legacy's. The tread is an open tread like an ATV tread, but it has the same load rating as a tractor tire.

What are you using on the front of the tractor to remove snow with?
If using the Fel you need Ballast on the back end of the tractor.

If you want to get AGs, get front ones. Forward traction shouldn't be a problem - lots of weight and 4-wheel drive. Steering, OTOH, is a problem. I have very little tractor experience - however just today I was trying to push a few logs around in the snow and had a terrible time with the front end pushing. I found myself going straight with the front wheels at full lock several times. I was working right beside a 4' drop into a stream, so it made me quite nervous. My tractor is much bigger and heavier than yours, so I'd expect you to have even more of a problem.

I ended up pushing the logs around using my 4x4 ATV, which does great in the snow, and is what I use to plow my driveways - I have Duro Excavators on it, which are aggressive - somewhat AG looking. Success in the snow is all about front end traction - not rear end.

I have no problem with turfs on my bx1500. In fact I just got done using my back blade on my lawn (yes my lawn) need to clear an area for my dog and this was with eight inches on snow on the ground:p What a great machine /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
