Been working on this for a couple weeks steady. Got it operational tonight. I need to finish grinding the welds and paint. I used a MHI TD03-7g turbo off a small Kubota diesel. I had to rebuild it, but was no big deal. Figuring out where to place it and run the oil lines and the air ducts took quite a while. I plan to make my own high mount air filter this weekend. Was a bit of a pain with placement in order to clear everything. Made all flanges from flat stock. Got mandrel bent tubing from Jegs. Tremendous improvement in performance, I did turn up the pump, can go quite a bit more but I'm waiting for the pyrometer to arrive before I crank it anymore. Proof of performance is that prior to turbo the highest speed I could reach in high gear with the 27" Essex surefoot tire kit was 17mph( was near 30mph with stock worksites as I had already turned up the pump when I first got the machine). Now I easily and quickly reach 27mph in high with the Essexs' on. I have a ton of pics from beginning to end. If you guys want the pics of the fit up etc. I will be glad to post them.Below are a few of the project as I had it running tonight. Enjoy!!:) :)

Awesome that you have it working. Post some pics of the tires and the complete rtv if you don't mind..

Try the stock tires and see how fast it will go. :)

I did on my post where I showed the essex tires and the heated seats. Its the last picture. The Essexs' made a HUGE difference in traction.
I don't think the machine will do much more than 30mph even with the worksites, as that is a function of the hydro and gearing. The extra ponies will give the machine more power, quicker acceleration, torque but shouldn't dramatically increase the speed as that is a function of engine speed, hydro and gearing. The extra power is evident because the machine didn't have the snot to go over 17mph in high gear with the essex's on pre-turbo and now with the turbo easily goes 27 mph with these tires.

mikeyd, you look as if you're a useful fella to know,
handy or what?
Well done.
Hope the Kubota holds up with the extra grunt.

have you checked your speed with a gps? i bet your true speed is faster than the spedo reading with the 27 tires.

You know, I never even thought of that. The taller tires would change the speedo reading. I don't have a gps but sounds like I know what to ask the wife for Christmas.

Pretty cool Mike. I would love to see how that turbo works with my Mattracks. How much in parts do you have invested for the turbo?

I haven't kept a tight eye on the budget but so far here are the approx. costs. The turbo was $250 used, the rebuild kit $75, the oil lines $60, the mandrel bend pipes, fittings and hoses were $200, the pyrometer was $100, gaskets were $25, the banjo fittings and sending bolt for the oil line was $35. That covers most of it. There are a few odds and ends like the Kubota gray paint I got today, 4 cans for $40, some primer, high heat paint for the exhaust etc. I would say when I am done somewhere close to $800. Not bad as the kit for the 900 was about $2700.

Timewise, well thats a different story. Lots of research about turbo's,sizing, boost , fuel pumps etc. Figuring where to place it , how to clear everything underneath. I have been staring at this thing for months, holding the turbo every different postion imaginable. At one point was going to remove the muffler and put the turbo back there but I couldn't find an easy solution to return the oil.

Still not done. Installed the pyrometer tonight, welded in some more support brackets, rewelded all the joints and painted everything. Probably got another 8 hours or so to finish up.:)

Why not just chop the frame and put a full blown Hemi in it. That should increase your speed.LOL.

He has been thinking of trying that with a 900. Do you want to buy a Hemi and bring your 900 down for him to try with;)

He also plans to add rocket launchers to the front fenders for when a deer jumps out in front of him. Has a neat little controler designed to come out of the dash already, just needs someone with nuclear experience to help him with his missles:D

I will give him all the credit that he deserves for putting that turbo together for a mere 800 bucks. I would give him 1600 to build me one.

mikeyd

Just talked to a man this morning, about his rtv 1100, subject was spark arrestors. I told him he should take it off. He said his didn't come with one. He even asked his dealer if he taken it off, and the answer was NO ...

Did your 1100 come with a spark arrestor, wouldn't they be at the end of the tailpipe like the RTV 900's ? ( am i going crazy or what ) Or would it be in the section that goes into the muffler from the tailpipe.... I thought all RTV's comes with spark arrestors !!! Or did the factory just forget to install one ~~~~~~

I left the muffler on so the sound is faint. Before I put the muffler on it whistled pretty good. I love that sound.

The rocket launchers go on the back for rocket assist like they have on the C-130's. Seriously, I won't be happy until it can pull the front end.

Got most everything painted up and re-installed. Paint hides a lot of sins. Made the high mount air filter today, not painted yet. Will post some pics in a few minutes.
