I believe he said what you said....Hard to disagree with that.

So your the guy standing in front of me arguing with the check out girl about pricing. Does that ever work for you?

No wonder it takes me so long to get out of the store. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

WRONG!!!!! I have the discussion with the management before I ever get to the register. In fact, if the difference isn't a major amount, I will just buy the item and go on. If I find that there is a major difference, I would like to know why. I will also tell the management if I find that there is a pricing error even if it is in the customers favor. I am not trying to cheat the companies, but I also don't want to be cheated. I have found that in some stores, the management will raise the prices because they want to make additional profits. Many times, the home office isn't aware of this. I found the local Warehouse Store that they had removed all inventory of one of the products that was on sale in the flier so it wouldn't cut into their profits. It was a buy one get one free item that sold for $50.00. The only reason I learned about this is when I called the home office to ask why they didn't have any inventory in the local store of the item that was featured on the front page of the sale flier. The home office checked the inventory of the store and told me that they had over 100 pieces in the store according to their records. I returned the next day and they were still not out on the floor. I then called the home office again and they said that the problem would be rectified by the next day... Amazingly, they had a big display the following day..

Wait till they print your phone number as part of the flyer...three seperate times! This happens to me about once a year. Last year I called their corporate office for the nth time and said next time expect a call from a lawyer. Imagine getting 100s of phone calls from 7:30AM until 9:00PM asking everything under the sun about their stuff.

When Quality Farm Fleet owned the local farm store, I became friends with the manager. When TSC took over the store they re-hired the same guy as manager. One day I gathered all my want lists together, hitched up my trailer and went to TSC. I needed an air compressor, tiller, and several other things bringing the total to well over $2500. At the time they were just starting the promotion on their credit card offering 10% off on any purchases made with the card. I went to the manager, and told him I didn't need any more credit cards and asked him if there was any way I could still get the discount. He said "sure, no problem, I'm allowed to give 10% on special occasions" ( I interpereted that to mean "when you spend big bucks"). After I went through the checkout he even got their fork lift and helped me load everything on my trailer. I've asked him for a discount twice since then, once for a wood splitter, and once for some air tools, and he gave me 10% both times. I won't abuse this privelage, but if I'm going to spend over $400 at one time, I'll go looking for him. Of course it helps that he is a nice guy, and that I was the number 3 customer (in purchases) that year, but he gave me the impression that all TSC managers have the same authority to give 10% off.

Now this is reasonable and I certainly would talk to the manager. I too have been the guy behind someone in line who expects some teenage cashier to give a discount on demand. I have yet to see that ever work. Lately when I go to TSC they ask for my phone # every time. I just look at the cashier and politely say " No Thanx " It seems to stump them so much they dont know what to say /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The other store I wont even walk into any more that started that non sense is Bass Pro Shops. Last time I said "no thanx" to them the cashier said I cant complete the transaction with out a number ! So I just ok and started to walk out, she learned how to type 123-456-7891 in a hurry but I have never went back and never will. If TSC keeps that up I wont shop there any more in the future either. In my area there are plenty of choices to shop at. Dave

The Autozone store asks for your telephone number also, and it is for tracking purposes. When I have to return a "core", I no longer need the sales receipt, since it is in the computer. It also covers you for "no receipt" in the purchase of a "lifetime" part. I just use my office telephone number and the only time that they ever called was when I left something on the counter.
Last week, I was parked in the airport parking lot and upon paying the fee when I left, they asked for my zip code. I told them that there are no zip codes in the North Pole. To business today, knowing where your customers come from and what they buy is very important. It determines the next store location and the type of merchandise that they will stock. Super markets have gotten into it big time by only giving discounts for sale items if you have their "club card". My local supermarket rewards you with a gold coin when you purchase product that has points affixed to it. A 1 pound bar of butter is equal to 50 points. When you get 2500 points, you get the coin and it is good for free product. The one thing that I won't give out is my SS number. When any form "requires" this, I use a fictitious number 123-32-4567 as an example. I do the same for birth date. 01/02/03

Did I miss something here? Are you telling me that TSC publishes a list of customers and their phone numbers for the public to see? If so that is a scary thought. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

NO !!!!!!!! He was referring to them printing the wrong telephone number on the flier for calling the store. In this instance it was his telephone number, not the stores that was printed. A typographical error on the printers part. Happens all the time unfortunately.
We had to add a call blocking pass word to our 800 telephone number when a cell phone company was issued the same last 7 digits and the only difference was that ours was 800 and theirs was 866. Both are toll free area codes. When life hands you a lemon, learn to squeeze it and make lemonade!!!

Avoid the hassle with the airport brownie cop, give him 99705 for your zip. Satisifies both of you, he gets a real zip code, and you told him you live at North Pole . . . . . .Alaska.

With the false SSN, it might, and I stress might, bite you. Several years ago (all right 20) we bought a new house and of course went through the mortgage process. Somehow my SSN got transposed and no one caught it, not even my normally astute wife. Three years later I'm facing an IRS investigation AND the Social Security Administration is after me for improper use of a federally issued ID number. Man what a month that was.

Finally got it all straightened out, IRS backed off as soon as we could show the error, but the SSA folks were still mighty 'upset'.

Just watch where you share your ID's, if there is a legitimate need, so be it. Problem is today that everyone thinks they have a right to all your info. Try to get a library card!

I know what you are saying. I only use the fictitious one for things like grocery stores that "think" that they have a right to ask for it. Even the telephone company wanted it to "update" their records when I made a service change. Seems that the original law that said it isn't for ID purposes, doesn't apply now. As long as you don't give fictitious information for the purpose to defraud, you are in the clear. A mortgage application wouldn't go through today if you had transposed the numbers because they couldn't get a credit report on you.

I rarely give out my phone #, and I sure as heck dont give it out to any cashier. My zip code, hay, no problem, its generic. MY SS #, I actually laugh at people who ask for that. I get pretty up tight about my ID. I went a a doctors office a few years back and the girl asked for my drivers license so she could enter my info into the computer as a new patient. I said sure, so she takes my license and makes a photo copy. I ask hey, why did you make a copy of my license ? She says, You will just have to talk to the DR about that. Now I'm thinking you bet your bottom I will. So I finally get to see the good Dr and the first thing I ask him is about my license and I politely explain the situation. This guy goes on a rant about how people dont pay their copays or they have cancelled insurance etc and his girls work hard and deserve to be paid. So I looked him square in the eye and I said, so let me get this straight, you have your staff lie to me to get my personal info under false pretenses and you think I'm going to rip you off and I've just walked in the door ? No response, so I say, you know doc you want me to put my life in your hands but you dont trust me enough to pay you. About that time the resident who was woking with him that day leans over and whispers in the Dr's ear ....Thats Dr. X's husband.....oooops ! Now hes really Po'd because I didnt tell him who I was so he could treat me "special" , lol. So he goes out and gets the photocopy and throws it in my face, I'll tell you what friend, it was a good thing he had a resident with him that day because I came off that table and I would have knocked the snot out of him if no one else was in the room. The funny part was him calling my wife kissin butt for the next several weeks for refferals, yeeeeah right /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Now dont even get me started on those stupid cards like the grocery store uses. I'd like to send them all the same route as the Dixie chix Cd's I used to own /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Now in many DRs offices since Otober with the new privacy laws they have to copy your drivers license and put it in your file to protect them and you. No one else can get your info, or is supposed to be able to. Not even your spouse. So in the future they can look at your photo and make sure your really you /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Dave

You ought to live around here. The local hospital will make a photocopy of your driver's license and your insurance card every time you go in there, even if you were just there yesterday and the day before, etc. And the cancer center wants a photocopy of your driver's license and insurance card every 3 months.

Yep, and then the receipt will print out with you name on already on it, and they know whether you have the paperwork on file to not pay sales tax if it's for farm use.

And Circuit City always asks for your phone number also.

Saturday, at a Church's Fried Chicken place was the first time I've been asked for my zip code when I went to pay with a credit card. However, the cashier (just a kid) said the "transaction failed" so he tried again with the same result, then on the third try he said he got "unauthorized transaction" so he couldn't take that credit card, so I told him to just forget it; I'd go somewhere where they had an employee who knew what he was doing, and I did. At the next nearest Church's Fried Chicken, I was not asked for a zip code, and the same credit card worked just fine, as usual. At the second Church's place, the guy did ask "credit?" so now I'm guessing that the first kid tried to run it as a debit card.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I have asked Wal-Mart about adjusting prices to match what another Wal-Mart has something for and they won't do it. )</font>

I haven't had occasion to do that, but we recently bought a few items at a Wal-Mart for outdoor Christmas decorations, and our daughter asked if we would pick up the same things for her a couple of days later. I went to two Wal-Marts and they were both sold out of those particular items, so I went to Home Depot and they had the identical items about 20% higher than Wal-Mart. I told the cashier and she rang them up at the Wal-Mart prices (just took my word for it), then deducted another 10%. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a bad habbit of doing just that too, (truefully though not scamming the stores) I buy the item at the higher priced place and then take the add to the desk (not at the cashier though at customer support desk) and say here is add for a few bucks less, so then you get it a rebate for the difference + 10%, I spent over 300 on 2x4 framing studs at lowes this year, and went to HD and bought a few of each size, took the reciept back to lowes showing the lower price, (same stud grade ect.0 and recieved a nice 103 bucks back for the total purchaces I had made at lowes.!!! the price difference wasn't that much but the 10% sure adds up fast!

I was spending th emoney anyhwo and simply bought at lowes cause at the time It was closer. knowing HD had bettter prices was not that big of deal but after buying all the lumber and stuff I couldn't pas up the fact that they have that big banner hanging up front, lowest prices or 10% off while matching!

Experienced this when I was trying to get an alternator exchanged at the parts store. I had my receipt, but they wanted my phone number. Nothing came up on their computer. Luckily, I remembered my phone number had changed since I first bought the part and after giving them the old number, there it was, no problem. Glad I didn’t just make one up on that purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have never had a parts store or anyone call me that I figured got the number from them.

Lowes has a similar policy. I bought a Maytag Neptune washing machine at Lowes for $999. It's pretty much a fixed price on that particular model no matter where you go. A week later, Home Depot was selling it for $899. Since the price match at Lowes is for the following 30 days also, I went back to Lowes and told them about it. They told me that Home Depot wasn't going to sell that model any more and their price match didn't apply to clearance and discontinued items (the REALY FINE print).

I showed them the OTHER fine print, where it said if I wasn't satisfied with any item, I could bring it back within 30 days for a full refund. I told them I was going to bring the washer back, get my $999 refunded, and then drive next door to Home Depot and by the same washing machine for $899.

Guess what Lowes decided to do? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I received a gift card for $110 (the price difference plus 10%) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
