In my OP, I was referring to the the disability, SSI etc. checks as well as UI draw checks in the community. These people will not work at all on a Payroll, they will cut wood and deliver it or haul in hay or work in the tobacco fields or do farm work all day long as long as it is cash payments. Most of these people are not anymore disabled than I am. I feel sure that our nations expenditures on UI and Disability are at least 1/2 fraudulent. Ken Sweet

All true. My wife works in administering "entitlement" programs, and from this perspective I'd wager that %80 are fraudulent in some way or another. The biggest shock to me was how someone "proves" they don't have any income.

To prove you don't have any income all that is required is that you bring in a letter signed by a neighbor that you don't work, and have no income! She has no requirement or even any way to verify this through the IRS, or Social Security Administration.

I have it all figured out.

Instead of giving the money directly to the people on unemployment they give the money to the EMPLOYERS. It works like this.

The unemployed works 40 Hours for certified employers that have been checked out by the Government or that have paid business taxes in the past so many years - OR FARMS.

The unemployed works 40 hours then and ONLY then do they get their unemployment check. Bow what does this do.

1.) The government gets an instant employment police force. Are they really unemployed, did they come to work EVERY DAY? Etc.

2.) This will weed out the dead beats. If they don't show up ON TIME for 40 hors then they are off the program. So that saved the Government BILLIONS.

3.) The legitimate businesses or farms get some free labor so production goes UP , the cost of goods comes down in order to compete with China.

4.) The unemployed person gets some free training to better themselves in the future.

This is a win win for everyone...well except the unemployed who now has to work for the money.

At one time the city of San Francisco experimented by providing vouchers for shelter and food instead of traditional cash payments... they found many vouchers went unused and actually saved the city some money.

Last I heard the program was halted due to legal challenges... sounded like it was dealing with tow legitimate problems... those in genuine need and weeding out those abusing the system.

A little off topic... I was working on a building renovation a few years ago and a young lady hold a small dog approached me saying she had no money and needed to buy dog food because her dog had not eaten for several days... I told her I would be glad to help and she gave me a broad smile and as if I was her best friend... even called me sweety and honey.

I reached in my truck and pulled out two cans of dog food from a case I had just bought for my dog... I handed them to her and she got all upset and dropped both cans on the ground... I questioned her and she said her dog only eats people food and she only takes money!!!

Other guys on the job told me she makes a living with the dog and pony show and knows how to work the system of Housing, Food Stamps, etc.

For years I have felt that to qualify for unemployment, people should have to perform some form of meaneal labor each week. Whether picking up trash along the highways or cleaning up parks etc, it would make going back to work more desirable. 40 hours a week would be a bit much in my opinion if they are also suppose to be trying to find work, but 20 would not be out of sight. Some of the work done could be verifying by phone the interviews others have done. Maybe even a gov form signed by the interviewer with phone number for verification. X number per week must be turned in for qualification to continue. At any rate, it needs to be a PITA so that working is more desirable than UI.

Not sure I would what one of these working for me.

One thing that KY does for KY students instead of just giving more money for college the state will give up to $2 per hour to a private employer that provides the student with a job that provides related experience.

I was kind of hoping with the third year extension of UI just pasted that it would only pay 70% of the normal UI rate to help encourage getting a job.

There is a simple solution.

1. Help someone who needs help.
2. In exchange for the help, the recipient of any government assistance cannot vote in elections for 2 years.

Everybody wins. Those who need help get it. The politicians lose the ability buy votes by giving out handouts. The people who contribute to society elect the officials. The politicians will then be motivated to put systems in place that hinder the abuses of the assistance.

For any possibility of fixing the system, we must change the incentives so that we reward actions that help people and the community. We need to reward actions that have a long term perspective.

Lots of great suggestions guys! I'll vote for them!

We have the same problems here in Canada. I get that there are some honest folks down on hard times but every one of them wants to get back to work as quick as they can because they are embarassed to take hand outs. The dead beats though, they just see it as an entitlement. I think they've clamped down on it a bit but we used to have a HUGE problem with seasonal construction workers here. They'd work most of the year making good money and collect UI in the winter. I had a pal who made over $80k and he collected the "dole" in the winter!!! Insane.

Get rid of income taxes, have a consumption tax only. Nobody can get around that and the more you spend, the more you pay.

One trick they use is to have 2 bank accounts.
The one used to qualify is near $0. and the other has all the cash.

They use same trick when remitting taxes as gov't will seize the acct if you don't pay and supposedly gov't will not find the other full acct.

Knew of one person who wanted to qualify for gov't retirement paid homes that 'donated' his cash to the son in order to prove he was needy.
The son would then give the parent an allowance from the donated cash.

Around here it is not uncommon to find folks living in subsidized housing with 2 and 3 cars ATV's etc in the parking lot! --and when and if they work (cash only pls) they refuse anything less than 2X min wages (tax free).

The town council is needing to double subsidised home parking lots due to the quantity of vehicles.

There are time that I wonder if only suckers work and pay taxes.
