Been that way for many years. Trucks are higher value, more profitable than cars. And in a lot of ways, easier to build. A truck is a bigger platform, so components are less crowded than in a car. I think Ford's Michigan truck plant has run at capacity most of it's existence. Good money for everybody.

Without pickups Ford would be in real trouble. That's their bread and butter. The problem is I'm not sure if the sales they are seeing are part of a long term trend. When I talk to people at work who've bought a new truck they pretty much say the same thing. They upgraded before the stricter EPA mandates kick in.
