Snow Equipment Buying/Pricing Truck Plow Help

$2000 for a decent plow is going to be tough. Funny thing is I see junk trucks with junk plows for that all the time. Maybe buying a truck just for this purpose that you can beat up on your rough lane is the trick.

I have a 2004 Ram 2500 with a Fisher plow. When I bought this truck I already had the plow from my previous truck. As the interface between truck and plow is standard within that brand, I had a Fisher dealer install the truck side equipment. Both the frame and the under hood control module are matched to the brand/year truck. The control module integrates with the truck lights as well as controlling plow functions. The total truck side parts plus install was about $1,400 back in 2004.

That doesn't sound too encouraging.:(

Yes, the truck side wiring and carton could easily set you back $1200 especially new.

Personally, I like having a plow on my truck and the tractor as backup. Fisher & Meyers seem to be the most prevalent and easy to find parts. I bought an older Jeep with a decent older style plow and moved the plow to my newer Jeep. Seeing I only do my driveway and my FIL's, it has held up well. I think this past winter was my 5th year on a used plow. The only issues I've had have to do with loose connections. Now is the time to buy, a quick search on E-bay shows FISHER MINUTE MOUNT PLOW PUSH PLATES DODGE 7157 | eBay for a Minutemount blade. Nothing has to be new. :) BTW, I outfitted my Jeep for about $400 because I sold the old Jeep but I did all the labor. It really isn't tough to install.
