troy built string trimmer DOA!

I know the answer to this one. It's a bad coil. My last two had the exact same symptom. I have so much invested in the attachments I can't just go buy a different brand. I've also inherited my brothers and my dads because they are so fed up with the problems they have had. You can still get spark but not enough. The coils are notorious for going out on these too. Coil runs like $56 but, learned its just better to buy a new one because something else will break and you will have your source of parts off the old when it does.

Can't believe this thread is going because my Troybilt did the same exact thing last weekend. Worked great for 3 years, ran out of string, put new in and went to start and nada. Just thought I had it flooded it somehow with the way it was laying but never did start. Had a friend look at it who tinkers with these things and he said it was over his head. He tried a new plug and nothing. I had a Troy bilt "horse" riding mower and it was a piece of you know what, made the mistake of buying the weedeater during the only year the mower worked fine.

So that leaves the question what trimmer do I get now? Don't mind paying for a good one.

what did you end up doing with it? Fix it? shoot it?

Shoot it. Will have a new one by the weekend. If my buddy couldn't fix I don't have a shot. No use in wasting my time.
