I have a frontier snowblower on the rear of my john deere tractor.

We were using it and suddenly it stopped working. Cannot see any chain off or problem.

any ideas

There are two shear bolts on mine one is at the tractor side of the PTO shaft right next to the coupler. The other is on the snowblower right next to the small cog. If the one on the PTO shaft breaks the blower will not do a thing and you will see no moving parts on the blower at all.

the PTO is not operating?

If it is a shear bolt? Can I fix myself? Is it a big job.

Google your blower and download a manual. Typicly there will be a picture of where the sheer bolts are located. Simple wrenchs is all you need

Willow1,
Replacing a shear bolt is about a five minute job plus a trip to a dealer for purchasing said bolt.
The test is easy. Take off the PTO shaft from the tractor and engage PTO. If the PTO stub in the rear is turning the tractor is OK. Then start the search for shear bolt(s) location and replace.

and don't waste your money on premium prices at a dealer for "magic shear bolts". They are soft metal bolts with a shoulder........ standard stuff you can find at a hardware store, which do not require a mortgage to acquire...
