i have a cub cadet with a 27hp kohler engine with only 90hrs on it and the engine started using oil and then it lost power and runs rough and loud i have since heard kohler has a head gasket problem is this true?

If your Cub Cadet is still under warranty, I would suggest a trip to the dealer. Their mechanics should be able to determine if the issue is covered by Kohler, and is, in fact, meets the requirement in regards to the warranty provisions. Best wishes. BTW, Welcome aboard.

I just rebuilt a 18 hp Kohler with an appetite for oil. Every mowing used 2 gallons of gas and a quart of oil. The issue was a blown head gasket. A fairly easy fix.
Sorry, but I don't think that there is anything to do to get Kohler to stand behind it. I just hope the new bolts and gasket material really "fix" it.

G'day depending on the model of the engine yes they did have head gasket failures and they modified the gasket, the last time i went to a school on them over here it was discussed and they were offering warranty on them:thumbsup:. With the hours you have got on the machine I would be going to the dealer and asking them about it. I have just looked up my books and the failure was due to a timing issue and they have a modified key to go in the flywheel. If your local dealer is not helpful then try Kohler direct , Good luck
