Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

Trying to post a few pics and always over the limit. What are you folks using to re-size. I was trying it with Microsoft Picture-it. I must not be doing something right.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

I haven't used PictureIt in a while, so don't remember their menus, but if there's a menu item called image, look for resize or resample.

There are two things you can do, and may need to do both.
1. Change the size of the picture. If for example your camera produces an image 1200x1600, you can change the size to 480x640. This will reduce the file size because there is less information.
2. You can increase the compression level of the photo. Some programs call this "quality". Increased compression or reduced quality down to 50% will show little image degredation. You will not see any difference, but the file will be considerably smaller.

Depending on the starting image size, you may need to do both operations.

And don't forget to save with a new name or into a different folder so you don't overwrite your starting image file.

Re: Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

In all the graphics software I have used (probably 20 or more different products), one of the menu items is "Image". Click on Image and look for "Resize". If it isn't there, then your software most likely doesn't have that ability. Microsoft Photo Editor, which comes with Office, has it. I'm currently using Jasc's Paint Shop Pro, which is similar to but cheaper (around $120) than Adobe Photoshop, but both of those are probably overkill (and expensive) if you don't do much graphics work.

Try a google search for "freeware graphics software". There's tons of it out there. Some folks here like Irfanview, for example.

{edit} I was out on google looking at free software myself while posting this, and Gary got in first - didn't mean to duplicate what he said /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

I've used several, but the one mentioned here in other posts seems to work real well. Quick and easy.

PIXresizer

That looks like a good product. Is it worth the 39.00?

Re: Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

Another product for $49.95 is called ACDSee from ACD Systems . It is a browser (shows a whole subdirectory of photos as thumbnails) as well as allowing you to do basic color/light adjustments, resizing, rotation, and even cropping of photos. It can save photos in many, many formats. I use it for sorting and quick editing on thousands and thousands of the aircraft photos I use to build aviation training. It's the best I've ever seen at any price. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Trouble re-sizing photo\'s

I use ACDSee from ACD Systems. It is very user friendly.
When I bought my HP digital camera, ACDSee and the HP software came with it.
I have used Photo Shop products, also, but I always come back to ACDSee.
