I don't know if it was made by Pontiac but my boss when I was in high school had an IH with a cut in half v8. It was upright, not laid on its side. He got a good laugh at my jaw dropping when he opened the hood. Looked just like someone made it at home with a Sawzall and welded a plate on.

That sounds like the Fairbanks Morse two piston per cylinder engines that was used in Submarines. Am I close?

Our JD Model A ran on diesel fuel and had spark plugs.

Rhone-Gnome rotary aircraft engine. I think the crank was mounted to the fuselage and the prop was on the crankcase.

Close enough. Buck the horse was in both shows. Loren Greene like the horse so much he bought it and took it home.

Yep and due to the gyroscope effect it would turn sharply one way but very poorly the other.

It used gas to start, then switched to diesel. Then run it on gas before quitting so the carb had gas in it for starting.

Then the JD used the same system as the one I have in mind except on mine you didn't need to switch back to gas when shutting down.

We switched back, but I don't know if it was required to. Just how I was told to do it. It has been a long time.

Going from memory, I seem to recall that Buffalo Bill Cody was involved.

I think it was only 18 months or something like that cause they finished the transcontinental telegraph.

When we were kids, we had a horse called Buck, an old retired roping horse. I learned an alot from him.

In the western TV shows They always talk about the 45 cal. & sow it being loaded in rifles.
