A sub-soiler would probably work better because it has a longer shank and can get deeper but if you already have a middle buster, like I did, I went to Tractor Supply and bought a narrow share (for a harrow, I think.) I replaced the wide share on my middle buster with the narrow one when I made my trencher for laying black poly pipe.

I used a subsoiler to install electrical wire and it worked fine. It doesn't work well if you have soil with a lot of roots or rocks. I put my wire down about 10-12 inches.
