I saw a documentary once saying how cats helped build the grand coulee dam.

I excavated my foundation last year for waterproofing and other features. What a nightmare!



And I have to say, the Cats were of little help.

I would of course, be all for improving drainage around the house, and keeping the water away to start with. That goes without saying.

French drains work perfectly, when you really don't need them. But, once the ground is saturated, and it rains for a week straight, they can fill, and they become worthless.

If the drain doesn't run to daylight, I can never really sleep good.

Some of the septic drain field systems use plastic peanuts in a tube with the perforated pipe in the center. I have this system at my home, works pretty well too. The tube is really a net bag to keep most of the dirt away from the pipe.

I agree about the drain running to daylight. That is what I meant about running the drain around the perimeter. With that slope the OP is on that could be deep behind the house but should not have to extend very far around the sides, All of which is a heck of a lot easier to do than digging under the overhang.
