If you have trees overhanging your pond you wish to remove, wait until it freezes good. Then cut the trees and drag them off.

View attachment 533328 This is a portion of my five acre lake - as seen off my front porch. It a "natural" lake - NO DIGGING what-so-ever. Its five acres and 80 feet deep thru the center. There is no dam at the outlet but during the spring when the water level is at its highest - it does have a small stream flowing to my bigger ( 120 acre ) lake, immediately to the south. Normal lake level fluctuation during a twelve month period is 10" to 12" depending upon the annual rain fall/snow levels.

The big Ponderosa pine on the edge of the lake present no problems - they are rooted into the basaltic lava cliffs that are on the lakeside. The shape and geography of the little lake is such that it looks like it was made by some huge tracked dozer. However, in truth it was formed by the many gigantic outwash floods from prehistoric Lake Missoula.

My property in on the very northern edge of the basaltic scablands. Further south you get into the Palouse - I think that where all the dirt went from this area when Lake Missoula cut loose so many times.
