Tree removal

After the last storm and we were without power for 2.5 days the local power company agreed to remove 3 trees from my aunts house; responsible for 2 separate power outage. As my aunt was worried the tree might fall onto the house next time she agreed to there generous offer. Trees removed, cut into firewood size length, branches removes 2 stumps ground and one removed. 2 trees are Douglas Fir, and one is in a picture dated the early 1900's and it had been topped then.

the tree was 150 years old (counted rings)
had a large honeybees nest in it
was about 130 feet tall
19 feet around the base
6' thick

I was thinking the same thing. :laughing: Fire wood sized pieces around here is 16".

lol; well the crew isn't done yet. at 200.00 an hour for the crane, they will be back today to do more work.

Yes she got a good deal, but the power company was scolded for not doing more prior to the last outage. the big tree lost a branch two winters ago and took out power to a small piece if my area for a day. it was showed to them the dead maple tree and they said yep its dead and did not follow up on removing it. All they had to do was branch it and leave the trunk standing, no clean up at that time. last winter the branch fell off the maple and took out the lines, two poles and transformers during a big storm. that was the last one they had to fix, we were the last 1500 houses out due to a tree they was warned about.

the bees nest was sprayed before chopping, and again when down. I don't know why they don't try to salvage it..
