As a new member, due to the Yanmar group moving over here, I though I would show you some pictures of my Yanmar YM2620D after a sweetgum tree fell on it last summer. A short thunderstorm blew it over on the tractor. I went out to get on the tractor to move a neighbors tree that had blown over and this is what I found. The fiberglass top was shattered and one mounting point was slightly bent on the roll cage. The weight of the tree was so great that the back tire closest to the tree was compressed flat. The tire popped back up when we got the tree off. Fortunately the damage was limited to the cage and top. I thought sure that there would be damaged bearings or seal in the rear end, but I found none.

Quite a testimonial to Yanmar ruggedness. Thanks for the excellent photo.

Wow /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif! That really attests to the strength of the roll cage. I'd hate to think what the results would have been if all you had was a ROPS.

/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I would have had a sick feeling in my stomach when I saw the tree across the tractor at first!!Thats one <font color=red>tough<font color=red><font color=black> roll cage.

Boy their not kidding, Yanmars are tough.... Man, that must of been some feeling when you went to go use the tractor......... Some days you bite the bear, some days it bites you.......

Kinda makes the sun shades on some of the tractors seem a little pathetic, doesn't it /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif??

I did think for a minute that I was going to get sick at my stomach. Even after we got the tree off of it I kept thinking about having to tear into the rear end to replace an axle or best case a shattered bearing. I am just glad it hit the cage. Falling over the rear end allowed the tires to absorb most of the weight. Had it fell across the mid section she would have been a goner. I sell Yanmars as a sideline and the pictures have been a selling point a couple of times.

wow !! Now thats a tree. I was picturing a 3,4 or 5 inch tree and then when you said it compressed a rear tire, I was thinking it had to bigger then even 5 inch's. That thing is huge. It definately shows you the differance between a ROPS and a FOPS. Sure am glad your damage wasn't more serious.

If I was starting from scratch, I would definitely take a hard look at Yanmars now. I never even heard of them until after I bought my li'l 'Bota, but they look like serious machines.

Just wonderin', my tractor property is pretty heavily wooded -- do tall oaks hurt as much as sweetgums?

This brings to mind something I have wondered for a while. My B21 has a FOPS system and being that I use the tractor in mountains covered in hardwood trees it was one of the selling points for me. Why don’t manufactures offer FOPS as an option on more tractors?

Brent, is the FOPS standard for you model Yanmar? Is it available on other modles?

I have seen the FOPS on mine and 2 other YM2620D's. I think it must have been an option. The US market Yanmars did not offer it as an option.
