Without a doubt, the favorite thing I do at the ranch is liberate trees. We have some large American Elm, Post Oak and Blackjack oak out on the ranch. The property went neglected by the PO and birds would land and crap out red cedar "cones?'.... Anyway, the red cedar grow up through the deciduous trees and out-compete them in sun, air and water. I'm in a race to liberate them and really enjoy the process of approaching the site and working through the red cedar until a large, majestic tree stands free.

I used to clean up as I go by chipping the branches and cutting the trunk up for a garage stove. Now, I'm just taking them down to make sure I don't lose anymore big trees and will pick the stuff up with the arriving JD3720/grapple after it dries out some, off-gasses some oil and then burn the pile.

This should illustrate the issue. More photos to follow. The tree in the picture has been liberated and its rather attractive without the cedars below it.
