Suggest you decide if there is a drive belt slipping, and if not, is the transaxle ok.
Transaxle is combination of both the tranny and the rear end.

There has been a transmission belt part number change. I believe it is also 1/4" shorter. If the belt seems worn or glazed, it could be possible. Nothing keeping the clutch pedal from returning? More likely the transaxle. There is much discussion online on how to change oil on the transaxle.
All X300-series tractors are hydrostatic. It sounds like the main drive belt is slipping. As others have stated, the transmission and rear end are all one unit referred to as the transaxle.

How many hours? Are you the original owner? Is your property mostly level, or do you have hills and slopes?
It could be the belt ... has that ever been changed? Do you smell rubber?
It could also be in need of a fluid change in the hydro. It's not a difficult job if you're at all mechanical, but it requires removing the transaxle from the machine and inverting it on some sort of work platform to drain.

Yeah, I get that. I have also seen debris caught in the mechanism on the r/h side which caused drive issues. All it took was a small piece of gravel. It was held in neutral enough to where there was no reverse. It is wise when troubleshooting the source of a drive issue, you start with eliminating external concerns first.
