I'm getting ready for the 50 hour service on my CK35 HST and I've read through all of your helpful post but I have one question.

For the HST do I use tranny/hydro fluid? I was at our local general tractor store and they had special transmission fluids for the big brands, hydraulic fluid for systems that had separate hydraulic reservoirs and then fluid for tractors where the tranny and hydraulic system share a reservoir. Which are we?

Thanks

Hydra - Trans fluid. I buy it at Tractor Supply. Whatever says it covers both will be just fine.

One last question.

Why are there two filters for the transmission/hydraulic system?

One filter is for the hydro/hst trans and the other is for the hydraulics such as the loader, steering, and remotes. All the fluid comes from the same main sump but the trans has a dedicated filter.

I am going to give some un-solicited advise. Read the owners manual---Read the owners manual----Talk to the Service Manager at the Dealership where the unit was purchased before you purchase any fluids and filters.

I suspect that the lube for the tranny must be filtered to a finer level. If you ran the hydro oil through the same level of filtration it would slow things down too much.

I would rather have extra filtration than not enough. My old powershift bulldozer had more than one filter for the transmission oil.

I did read it along with the shop manual.

Neither explains why there is an extra filter. My worry was that there was a separate sump that I was unaware of.

The service went fine and my only advise to others is to have plenty of paper towels handy. :)
