Big Tex trailers have an option of slide-in ramps, fold-up ramps, or rear gate (spring assisted or not). I can't find a picture of the 10k and larger trailers with the rear gate but I'm sure it's more heavy duty than the one pictured here on a 4,500lb trailer.

Its got to be heavy. I would not want a regular mesh gate. The few trailers I have sold with them are back breakers and to me get in the way more often then not. Only way I would own one is if the trailer was used for only mowers in a commercial operation where they had to be on and off multiple times per day.

My 8-12' x 16' Woodworth (a local trailer co.) has a 5' ramp-gate w/ added 18" extension. Has coil springs around the pivot pins, plus when I added the 18", I put garage door springs in exhaust pipe tubing on both sides.

In my case, after cancer treatments, the 5' HD ramps got to be too much to handle! I haul multiple garden tractors, my JD 790, & 550 Mule, so a ramp-gate works much better for me than individual ramps anyway. ~~ grnspot110

Here's a pic of mine. The drive on rampgate is heavy, but it also has TWO springs to assist with raising/lowering it. I really like the drive on rampgate, it makes it quick/easy to load/unload just about anything that will fit on it.

The trailer is made by Diamond C Utility trailers out of Texas. Mine is the Road Clipper "PaceSetter" utility series, but it's 22 yrs old and they call this line by a different name now. It's been a good 'un though for the 12 years I've had it! No broke welds, but had to re-fab the little tabs for both latches on the rampgate though. They were broken off when I got it. The paint has turned to a nice shade of rust though. :( Check out their website.

I bought a great one at a good price just off of I70 in eastern Ohio. Leonard Trailer sales Huge inventory and about $500 less than here in New England for a Tandem axle

I would say carry-on, but you would need to add some cross members between the supports on the gate as my Sc2400 bends the expanded metal if I don't drive on the supports. I've been meaning to add cross members but I've never gotten to it. I would have went with Kaufman but I couldn't wait another day when I bought my trailer.

One thing about my carry-on is that there are two gates so you are only lifting one side of the gate at a time and not the full gate. It cuts down on the weight that you have to lift due to being only one side of the gate.

Almost any manufacturer offers gates. Like others have said, the mesh ones are worthless for tractors, unless they are reinforced. I had a gate on my single axle 6.5 x 12 single axle trailer. It handled my mowers and my BX just fine. I did not like the fact that it limited my deck length- I went with stowable ramps on my new tandem-it's nice to be able to let my bush hog tail wheel hang off a foot or so, let's me balance my load.

Yes, I know almost every manufacturer will offer a mesh landscape gate, but I'm looking for ones that have the "ladder style" heavy equipment ramps built into the mesh gate like the one in the picture.
