Tractor
"52 Ford 8n
Good afternoon. Does anyone know if a "52 8N will fit on a trailer that the rental companies(Penske,U-Haul) have? Unfortunately, the "gentleman" that I sold my tractor to has made more excuses than payments. So, I figure it's time for me to "repo" it. The real problem is that I have been in Florida for the past 14 months, now I will have to drive back to Tennessee, rent a trailer, and bring the 8N back to Florida. Any info would be helpful. Thank You, Don

It would be best to check with Uhaul, Penske etc. to see if the tractor will fit. I'm sure they have all the width and length dimensions.

I hope you have some sort of written paperwork between you and the buyer to prove ownership and you may want to notify local LEO's of your intention to repo when you get there. I'm also sure you must have had a reason for selling the tractor on a payment plan but know its a bad idea. Been there done that a few times, even to relatives, never again. Good luck getting it back.

You won't know until you see the tractor. If wheels are adjusted out for row cropping, center to center of rear tires are 72". Depending on tire size, add about 12" which make's 82" overall width. Utility trailers are rarly more than 78" between fenders/side rails. A car hauler will handle it regardless of wheel adjustment.

Thank you both! George2615, yes I did a foolish thing....thought I could trust him, even worse, a Gentleman's Agreement! jaxs, I couldn't remember the width or weight, but i'm sure that he did not change the width. Thanks for the info. Don

Was it restored or in special condition? These things can bring a ton of money if in cherry condition but most I see go for $2500 or less. Not sure what you sold it for and how much he has paid but I wonder if renting trailers and driving across states is worthwhile relative to what he owes. I get the principle of it though

Good morning, bdog. I know now that i was wrong in trusting him, but the circumstances at the time led me to do this. I really can't (shouldn't) be thinking of that trip, but he has paid $250 in 14 months. Yes it was in great shape, I had just finished a complete rebuild on the engine, the whole machine shop tour plus parts, and repainting everything but the wheels (ran out of time). I promise, he will not STEAL this from me! Thanks for the reply......Don

That's a bad situation. How do you plan to accomplish this? Will he allow you access? I fear that this could be a dangerous endeavor.

Do you have any proof at all of this "agreement"? Letters, emails, or witnesses? Could you have someone of authority accompany you if things go south? Good luck in retrieving your property.

Good morning, HCJtractor. Luckily for me, I only communicated by Text, and I have every lie and excuse for the last 14 months saved. Thanks, Don

I towed the NAA with a regular trailer and no issue...

Most of the U-Haul type trailers I see have wide rails and can accommodate a variety of widths.

I would hate to make the trip and then be denied entry or get arrested for trying...

A car parked on the street would be a lot easier... I have done a few repos back in the day... anything inside was off limits... especially if a locked garage or gate.

Don't feel too bad... a friend sold his Bantam to a guy with a check... the check bounced and after a year of promises he showed up and took his car back... he had the bounced check which was his saving grace... the car was 400 miles away and the seller had family in Los Angeles to scout the area before hand.

I’ve towed an 8N no problem with a uhaul car hauler no problem. The issue is that when you rent the trailer uhaul wants to know the make/model of the “car” you’re hauling and they don’t have 1952 Ford 8N in their system so you have to make something up and have a truck capable of towing the weight.

The uhaul trailers are heavy so your total load will probably be 5000lbs+. The Ford 8N weighs about 2500lbs and is about 60-65in wide.
