Trailer size needed to haul tractor

If all you are ever going is five miles away, and just the tractor and front end loader, then you can probably get buy with a 16 foot trailer. You will probably be over the weight capacity of the trailer though If it is a 7k landscape type trailer. If your tires are loaded, probably definitely be over weight capacity. You will need to make sure the trailer ramps are capable of supporting your weight of tractor. I certainly wouldn’t recomend this setup though. You could probably get by with the right trailer, but you already are seeing the issues…ie how do you haul the bushog, which adds even more weight to a trailer probably overloaded.

These types of trailers excel at moving lawn mowers and other stuff that weigh under 2k pounds, and you can stuff other items on it as well, but squeezing a 5k plus tractor on one is a different story. I bet your tractor with loader and a bushing is 6-7 k pounds which would be well over the designed limit of a 7 k trailer that probably has a 5k capacity at best. Frankly, I would stick to driving the tractor 5 miles.

Can the bush hog stay at your property, or do you use it at the house property?

if not an equipment trailer, I would be thinking a dump trailer might be ideal, if you can find one that can fit the tractor, and your truck could handle.

There is a guy on youtube Channel called ‘In the Woodyard’ that uses a dump trailer for his Kioti Dk, which should be similar size to your machine. You can search for his YouTube video to see how tight a fit it is. ( I think your tractor maybe a little larger, not sure).

You pretty much nailed it. I can just forego any bushhogging except at my property and leave the bushhog there. So now I'd just be hauling a tractor and FEL. Or continue to drive it for 5 miles and if I need service work, rent a trailer!

I would dearly love to have a dump trailer. When I have considered that, I figured if I was to use to haul the tractor, it would have to be so big, I'd get sticker shock!

As for buying a trailer to haul tractor and FEL only, that's an option. Maybe 18ft? My tires are not loaded, although, I have considered it!

When I bought my tractor, I knew nothing about trailers, weight, brakes, etc (or TBN). I brought it home in a F150 with a 4.6 V8. 35 miles an hour the whole way. It pulled it and got me home but I did not feel good about it. I sold that truck and got an F250. Best move I could of done. I only pull the tractor 4 or 5 times a year but when I do, I am not worried about bad things happening.

I know you want a one and done trailer, but if you want to be safe and protect your equipment get the right trailer for the job. It is like trying to buy a fishing boat to do everything from bass fishing to salt water. Probably not going to happen.

You are asking for opinions on here and getting solid advice about the best way to transport by those that have been there done that, but if you want to tote it around in a utility trailer with an F150 then that is your choice.

Have a 2014 Mahindra 5010, a 50-hp tractor with FEL and bushhog. How big a bumper pull trailer do you think is needed? Could remove the bushhog, but leaving it hooked up, what's needed such that it isn't a big hassle to load? Prefer this to be a utility type trailer such that it could carry firewood or a UTV and ATV.
Have you considered a tilt deck trailer? I had a 20' 14k equipment trailer and I was using it to haul my skid steer and it was really over loaded, so I started looking at tilt deck trailers and found Kaufman, you can buy a 22' tilt deck trailers from them for less than 7k, I upgraded to the 8k axles and 17.5 tires and it was still just a little over $8k, that extra 2' allows me to put the tractor I mostly mow with on it without the tail wheel of the bush hog hanging off the trailer, did I mention I don't miss messing with ramps.

My first trailer was a 16' carhauler. I built bigger shorter ramps that worked better than the long lighter ramps that came with it.
When I got a bigger tractor, a bigger trailer was needed as well.
Grow into or buy into, don't matter, just do it!

For me, by the time i got a big enough trailer, I'd have to have a bigger truck. I have no need for a bigger truck otherwise.

Technically, I could remove my loader and haul my tractor with what I have, but I'm not likely to do it.

I figured that in my case, hauling my tractor will be 99.9% for service. That should be rare enough it is worth it to pay someone to haul it.

I haul my Mahindra 5005 with FEL & loaded tires with a 18', 10k car hauler and a GMC 1500 with a 6.2. It all works well, but probalby pretty close to capacity for both the trailer and truck. I haul the tractor 2-3 times a season about 15 miles and its good. I wouldn't haul it with my 7' brush hog, too heavy and long. My equipment stays at the property spring thru fall and then the tractor comes home to spend winter in a garage. I will say that the tractor created the main need for the trailer, but it definitely is not its main use. I've picked up equipment, hauled pumpkins, and building materials, so it's not a one trick pony for sure. Good luck

You mentioned having a firewood business. Do you have a dump truck to deliver wood? If so, you could just haul the brush hog in that.
