I have a dilema. I need to transport my tractor to and from my place in Virginia to my other property in West Virginia a couple times per year. My new 7040 exceeds the GVWR on my current trailer by about 2000 lbs. If I sold my trailer (est worth $3500) and bought the proper trailer (gooseneck, dual tandem) at around $8K, I would have a trailer worth $8K sitting around all year except for the couple times I need it.

I'm thinking of hiring out the transport (90 miles) instead of owing a trailer. Does any body else do this? I don't have prices for the transport yet. Does anybody have a rough transport cost?

Thanks for your input.

What work do you do at your other place? If it's just mowing, I'd opt for a second, smaller tractor. Or, as the other guy said, see about renting a U-Haul or similar trailer. Maybe get one of the car hauler/wrecker guys to transport it. Or, maybe a second smaller tractor.:D

Sounds like the big price difference in trailers. 4500$.. may be able to get you a goo dolder diesel tractor an mower.. and have some mowe left over.. Assuming you have a semi-secure palce to store it.. like a pole barn with an enclosure.. or a real close neighbor.. etc..

You should be able to rent a dual tandem GN for a little over 100.00 a day.
It won't be at U Haul, you'll have to find a local equipment rental company.
