Trailer Mesh tailgate

My mesh gate handled my Kubota B2920 just fine, so if you have a Max 22 as noted in your signature, I wouldn't worry about that at all.

You didn't say the width of your trailer so we don't know the spacing of the angles. On my gate, square tubes are used, spaced every 12" across the 7 foot width of the trailer/gate. The tubing is thin wall, probably 1/16" thickness.

Cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to bridge over the gate.
It will help distribute the load over a larger portion of the gate.

That or two pieces of 2x10 or 2x12 laid over the gate where the wheels will go.

I'd say about 600 lbs, if he's a big ugly one. :laughing:


If I remember correctly, there are 2 cables that hook to your tailgate and are hooked to springs (or pistons ?) enclosed in a housing that sets on each side rail of your trailer.
They are really nice and saves your back from having to lift a heavy tailgate. You still have to assist it along but it handles the major portion of the weight.

I need to do that to mine. For some reason my tailgate is getting heavier all the time. I'm sure it's not because I'm getting old, though. :laughing:

Btw, in this pic I see you saddled a dead horse, although I don't think you'll have any problem with the cable slipping. :laughing:

A pair of ramps over the tailgate might make sense if you had other uses for them.

Anyone that builds a gate should make it so it will lay flat on the deck when pulling it unloaded. Even mesh creates a ton of drag.
I'm another satisfied gorilla lift owner.
