Trailer Loading Accident

/ Trailer Loading Accident #21
As we too are learning as we do, Dad experienced a trailer roll also. I was running to the truck when I saw it happen; he just goosed the tractor up on the trailer and put the weight back on the wheels. I have bought a stick for locking the brake down against the steering wheel, and will be incorporating the wheel chocks also.

Renze: I dont think id be pulling a 3000kg tractor behind a car rated for 1400kg.

I didnt say i'd recommend that... ;)

AFAIK he doesnt take the main roads with that weight, only smaller roads driving no faster than 60. Its still quicker than driving 30 on the tractor.
Often he puts the tractor on the trailer, and when he comes near busy roads near cities, he puts the mondeo on the trailer and pulls that with the tractor to the final jobsite, so he can drive home with the car and the trailer and leave the tractor overnight.

The first time we brought the tractor home I did something like this. Halfway down the ramps the rear end of the truck came up and we went for a short but scary ride.

Lesson learned but I should have asked about loading and unloading tips before I did it.

as fall is in our future i thought i'd mention theis one a few years back a local contractor was loading a small dozer on a trailer in the early morning the deck of the trailer was covered in frost needless to say the dozer slid off the trailer under the pinning him to the ground. he still dosent walk right today this was over 20 years ago. point of this, when the frost comes be careful loading the ramps and deck will become slippery.

+1

And never underestimate the slipperiness of rubber on rubber. A buddy of mine was loading his backhoe on his trailer and there was a little moisture on the trailer tires. When the backhoe's tires were on the trailers tires, the hoe slid off the trailer

Luckily it just broke the glass, and stained some cotton :D But it could have been alot worse.
