Trailer Light Problem

/ Trailer Light Problem #21
There is also the Universal Law of Functioning Trailer Lights...there are only a finite number of trailer lights that can operate in the the universe at one time. If you get yours back then someone else lost his. You might just have to wait a while. :D

if it didn't seem to be so true.. it would be more funny. but yeah.. it seems true. trailer lamps are almost always temporary too. you can fix them today.. and in 3 months.. they may not work again. ;)

/ Trailer Light Problem #22
Since new my '99 F-250 and new equipment trailer (5 pin...I think) had sporadic light malfunctions. I cleaned the truck to trailer connections etc. with sporadic results. My problem was finally solved with a two foot piece of bailing twine. I tied the trailer connection up to the hole where the jack handle fits into the spare tire lift. It has never failed since.

A pair of jumper cables clamped between the trailer and tow vehicle stops the ground gremlins in there tracks.

A good diagnostic is to take a long jumper wire from the tow vehicle ground back to each malfunctioning light. This will find a bad ground connection between the light and the trailer frame.
