Trailer hitch recommendation

Can anyone recommend an after market class III/IV trailer hitch for a 1993 F150 2 wd, auto, 8 ft bed? I want to install it myself. I plan to use it to tow an occasional utility trailer rental and for hauling rental equipment such as a ditch-witch. Thanks for your help.

I have a Putnam on my Dodge. A local place sells Drawtite for $70 plus $30 to install. If you have to drill more than two holes in the frame, I would gladlly pay the $30. JC

In the past, I purchased fram mounted hitches for two passenger cars from U-Haul. They were very competitive in price and quality, are everywhere, were easy to deal with. The hitches were class I for several compact sedans, but they were well matched to the vehicle, were installed by them cheaply and without problems (Holes lined up, etc.). I wired it myself and could have installed it myself, but their installation was so cheap it wasn't worth my time or effort. U-Haul may be worth looking into and you would not pay for shipping of a very heavy object. I don't know who makes the hitches for them but since they have their name on it, it should be good.

It sounds like a class III would more than meet your needs. A Class IV may be overkill, would add unnecessary weight to the truck and put a larger dent in your wallet.

Joe, I let the local U-Haul place install a load distributing hitch on my '01 Ranger last year; $130 plus $30 labor for installation. Of course, there was no drilling to do because the hitches are designed for specific vehicles.
