Trailer brakes

Thanks for all the replies. I found my problem. The wires to one of the magnets were not tucked in properly. It rubbed against the drum. Therefore, a shorted condition occured (OL). I wiretied it back and checked. I think I will need to get new pads. They feel they need ajustment. I made a test light with a 50w 12v halogen lamp so I could prove my controller was good. Made a good load.

I built a trailer wire it carefully. When I hooked up the trailer brakes the controller appeared like it was happy. When I am moving and try to apply the brakes I get a OL on the controller. The brakes do not seem to work. I guess I will need to troubleshoot it over the weekend. It appears only two wires are involved, ground (white) and brakes (blue). I was told that the magnets are not polarity sensitive. Any ideas.

If you have a gm vehicle with the 7 pin connector on it, and have a 7 to 6 converter for a 6 pin trailer, and aure using a stock harness pigtail connector to connect your controller to the vehicle.. then you will likely have to swap 2 wires in the 7to6 converter.

otherwise it's like the guys said.. power, ground, brake sens, and power to the brake magnets.. other side of magnets to ground.
