trade 5205 for 5403?

I would like your opinions on my JD 5205 MFWD. It is a 2006 with 150 hours on it. I use it to brush hog about 60 hilly acres. I use it with a MX7 cuuter. The tractor uses every once of H.P. when cutting up hill.
I was thinking about trading to a MFWD 5304. I will be taking a pretty big loss $$ on the trade in.

Do you think this is worth the extra 16 or so horse power. Is the 5403 a better machine.

There's a good thread on this forum that lends some detail to the new '03 models. As you'll see, much is yet to be determined.

Prices look very competitive. Machine capabilities --- transmission, HP --- also appear to be enticing.

As soon as a few models hit the dirt for a while... we'll all have a much better idea of how this particular machine compares to other models and what purchase/trade-in decisions make good sense.

Someone here needs to get a new 03 and eval for all of us. I'm seriously pondering trading my 5103 for a new MFWD 5203. If I can just make the numbers work.

I'm a bit surprised that power is an issue. I have a 2006 5105 with an LX6 and have way, waaaayyy more power than I need for the mowing. I realize you're running a 7' and going up hills, but wow - I just can't imagine needing more hp for mowing than I have. I wouldn't think twice about running an 8' with my 5105, and I'll bet I could run a 10' without problems. But of course my land is only gently sloping.

Now is probably the worst time to sell a 5205 because there are a few brand-new ones left on dealer lots at really nice prices. Once those are all sold in 6-9 months you would probably have better luck trading. But if you do want to sell now, definitely contact RollingsFarms on TBN, he has expressed some interest in a 5105 or 205.
