Whether they have the expertise to evaluate tractors is unknown.

I remember a Consumer Report piece that said front wheel drive vehicles have practically the same traction as four wheel drive. Not in my hands.

I have always thought a tractor is only as good as the dealer and manufacturer support behind them. Of course, as long as they are a fit size and machine for the work intended. I also think Kubota has carved most of their revenue in the compact/sub comp market and JD has the services (repair on farm site) gaining most revenue in larger farm equipment - over 100 hp, combines and heads, etc. When I bought my Kubota, I went to JD first. They didn't even offer to show me the tractor I wanted. But I understand why - a 30k tractor pales in comparison to a combine setup.

Any tractor (that runs) has to be better than a shovel. I did that before getting the tractor.

Lots of hate for Mahindra here, and yes they aren't Kubota, but a lot of you people hating on them have probably never ran one. They aren't fancy but they work and get the job done. I know 4 other people with them and none of us have had any issues. And to top it off, they weren't even ranked that highly. But it sure hurt some of your feelings.

Maybe they are adequate for some people. To each his own. It's your money, not ours, so buy whatever you think is best for your needs.

Having said that, I've seen them up close and tested a few out at our local dealer (like I said, he's a good guy), but damn those tractors left me wanting. From low lift heights on loaders to terrible ergonomics, to poor hydraulic ratings, every tractor I've purchased was another brand.

Lke a Zetor tractor, it's a plain Jane tractor, no frills, eye candy design, or fancy electronics, just a plain reliable work tractor.

The Czech's really got a reputation for producing quality even under Communism, I do wish Zetor had a larger presence as I'd love to actually take a good look at them.

Meanwhile my closest Mahindra dealer makes it hard to give them an unbiased look; nothing like putting a damaged tractor right on the line, and when someone points it out giving them a figurative shrug.

I always found the Mitsubishi models to be pretty neat.
