Yeah, with a big bit of skepticism I have driven my Yanmar SA into woods
I was surprised how good is compact size tractor for "fishing"

Here we also had global warming style winter. Not that harsh as you had, but at nights for almost 4 weeks was near -20C / -4 F. And counting, all February is ahead. Wife was concerned about reserve of firewood at her mothers house.

At old woods there always are firewood deposit - few bone dry woods, still vertical

Wife went out scouting. She is always concerned, hi-viz etc

Scouting was needed, as at some places snow was up to knee. Wandering around with saw and equipment is not walk in the park anymore

Little tractor is at city, for municipal duties
So we took old/big (80 Hp) with timber wagon
Wagon has 6,5 m crane and most important - winch, which is on the crane
Winch is not powerful, maybe ton or 1 1/2T, but it is very handy in such "fishing expeditions". And on snow logs skidding logs is easy game anyway
It took like 3 hours to collect fill wagon - 5 m^3 of timber. Without any big efforts. Ok, it's firewood, I worked without measuring tape

This spruce was first and only one was laying on ground. Not really on ground, but on its limbs, so good enough for firewood

Firewood for the winter of 2025/26. I'll block and split it late this winter or early spring. Gives it 2 summers to dry. One in the sun and then into the shed.
