If your picking up your rear tires you need more counter balance.
Easier said than done!

I don't use the tractor much in winter, mostly afraid of it getting stuck, maybe if I had chains for it. I've thought about chains for the loader, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

At least yours doesn't pivot on front the way that mine does when the rears come up!

That depends on how tight I hold the steering wheel!! That back half always wants to swing to the side if the rears are up, then things get real puckery real fast!!

Sometimes I like to use my little trailer for firewood. Especially when thinning. I can get 3/4 of a cord on it.

I have to load it by hand and that gets riskier every year on an already abused back. I wondered if I could put a simple crane on my forestry winch .... so I made a model and did an experiment. It is not a strong crane. Just something to get a feel to see if building a proper one would be worth it. I think I will - fun if nothing else.

I'm just using small wood. The hinges I used are cheap cast hook and eye gate hinges good for 100 lbs according to the package. I broke the hook part when I first mounted the crane and hung on it. Replaced the hooks with 1/2" bolts.

3 minute video of first try.

I've seen little trailers that come with a tower at the front end and a small winch (typically hand-cranked).
I wonder if you could attach some sort of receiver near the tongue of the trailer so the crane is (temporarily) mounted on the trailer itself, so you don't have to take it on and off the winch as much. May need outriggers though with a trailer-mounted crane....
Consider a log hook on the end of the crane cable? Or would it use up too much of your clearance?

Thanks, some good ideas to think about. I'm still experimenting so any ideas/suggestions are good. I thought about a trailer mounted crane but the frame is only formed up .100 material and I don't think it would take the cantilevered weight forces w/o a tremendous amount of beefing up.
