I made a winch similar to Sawyer Rob's for my band mill. That is the safest and easiest was to turn the big logs. By rotating the logs against the dogs on the mill you have much better control. More control = safer situation. W.Jones

Did a little bit 0f wood.usualy my wife does it during the week while I'm at work. These logs were kicking her butt. She had to bottom cut them but after her 8 back surgeries, she doesn't have the strength to do it.took care of them today.

Gave me a reason to bring the big saw out, just to run it but way overkill.

Seems intuitive bad things could happen fast if one of them loses its bite on a lifted log. I've used a set recently to place logs on my sawmill and so far its been uneventful. Not sure how many other ways these were used in the past.

Tannerite would have been more fun. I had to run the saw cuz it's been a while but after about 20 minutes I grabbed the 490. That 800 gets heavy.

I haven’t had a chance for testing yet but I bought a 3 point hitch wood splitter and made an adapter to fit my mini x. I think it’s going to work good for cracking big rounds.

That is an excellent idea!!! Pop them open right where they lay.

Today was a really nice sunny/warm day and a firewood day! My friend came over and we cut/skidded oak and elm,

It takes a lot of work out of firewood, cutting over a wagon,

And with the wagon loaded, we headed home,

We also split the whole load, so it was a very good firewood day!

I thought it was pretty hot out yesterday. All I managed was to make some softwood kindling from some drops on the landing.

Every fall I fill this kindling rack behind the stove. This is left from last year. If the wife lights a lot of fires more gets used.
