Put your rounds into an old tire when splitting by hand. Most the time, the round will remain inside the tire allowing you to take a step to the side and keep on splitting. The saver is NOT having to bend over and readjust your round every time.

That is why I run my splitter vertically, never have to pick up a big log to put on it.

Just get a bigger tire!

I prefer the hyd. splitter, shoulder has issues and didn't want more problems later in life. Also we have a lot of stringy wood so splitting by hand gets old fast!

I split everything by hand I usually try to just keep it all in a close pile The tire trick works until you come across large rounds then you out of luck. I like to try and keep a large round for the splitting block if possible.

You got my by quite a few years, the plan is to still be able to split when I'm in my 70's, hence why I'm trying to take care of my body now!

Shoulders have issues from doing push-ups at one point in my life, trying to avoid as many surgeries as possible in the future.
