JohnMC, Yeah I remember you telling me you have one. I Heard they were good, and I'm sure they are as it seems most of those are made well. I was wondering what the price was? When did you buy yours? I looked on their site and its around $4000 us dollars. I'm in newfoundland, so I was just wondering. I was talking to another guy in Ontario that had a brand there, can't remember which one but for similar pulling power it was maybe $3000 or $3500 Canadian, so I was just wondering the price differences. I emailed a dealer or two but never called any.

Why is it, when you're down to your last piece of the day to split, the splitter runs out of gas!

About 510 pieces split this afternoon, give or take.

Dude, I would find that completely unacceptable. My neurosis would require me to split that last round by any means necessary.

That's FUNNY!

I'd had some big wood that my chainsaw wasn't able to completely circumnavigate: cutting almost 45" dia with an 18" bar. I did not want that (I think I only had one piece) huge (long) round laying around. Ended up popping the sections apart using my tractor's bucket (with tooth bar).

I had been wanting one since about 2002, but never could justify it just for my personal firewood use. When I first started looking, they were about $2300. Wish i had bought it when I was first thinking about it. I finally bought one around 2008 or so, when I joined a group that owns some land cooperatively a few miles from mine. If I recall correctly, it was around $3000. For a while, steel prices were going absolutely crazy (China was buying up all the scrap, which believe it or not, is the prime ingredient in "new" steel). Prices were bouncing all over the place. Their web site shows it at US$3895 now. I keep wondering if they'll go down, since they are imported form Europe and the US$ is so strong these days, but it hasn't happened. (I guess a strong US$ wouldn't help you much anyway...)

Only once in almost 15 years of watching have I seen a used logging winch in this size range and in half-decent or better condition for sale in my area. That was an older model Farmi for which parts are no longer available. I saw a couple of larger used ones, but they were too big for my tractor, and beat almost to death.

Once you have one you will wonder why you waited so long to buy it.

This is very true. I've said it before, probably even in this thread, but I got a great deal on mine used. If it got stolen, I'd order one tomorrow without hesitation. Even at full MSRP, they are a good deal.

I'm in the same boat, it's a VERY useful tool to have...

I've used mine many times for things other than skidding tree's/logs...

My Dad's been gone nearly 5 years and he took down some nice pine a couple years before he passed. I thought they'd be no good for the Woodmizer. I bucked one up today and found good wood all the way through. I bucked up 6 more and the same, nice and solid.
