Tractor
jd 400, jd 855
I've really enjoyed reading all the discussion on the JD boards. There's a lot of difference of opinion. The one thread that seems to come through is, like boats, the participants are really in love with tractors and like boats, are always dreaming about the perfect tractor... (bigger). We have a JD 400, also a JD 855, and are now seriously dreaming about a 5000 series. Sure glad I sold my boat.

Now for a question; are tractors also a hole in the water into which large quanities of money are poured?

With boats... isn't it called "2 foot 'itess..." and maybe with tractors "horsepower 'itess"... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I'll agree with the hp thing. I've already got it. Wish I had the extra 3 hp that the 4400 has over the 4300. If I had that I'd want maybe a 4500 or a 4600 and then a 4700. After I had all that I just know I'd want another tractor to do all the small things that the bigger one can't do, maybe a 4200 or 4300 size. I think I'll stay where I'm at and save myself the full circle.

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Another poster was recently looking at a JD5205 and a NH... then I see he purchased the JD5420.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

No upgrades for him... buy the baddest & biggest on day one and get it over with... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You're right guys, always want more HP. I had a 22' Bayliner, traded it for a 20' pontoon, and since buying the 10 acres, sold it. I'd rather play at the property than go boating, and we used the pontoon 6 times last summer.

I learned my lesson on 4 wheelers rather than boats. Unless you have woods, or a lake in a boats case, in your own back yard it is just too time consuming to enjoy your hobby. It's hard to take a whole day for anything that really in the long run isn't productive. I just love this tractoring thing....you can hop on it for an hour and then head off to do something else if you like. Mucho felxibility!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Of course not Egon...don't be ridiculous. Tractors are a hole in the ground into which large quantities of money are poured!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I thought that boat owners were only happy the day they
bought, and the day they sold - with lots of hell in the
middle.

At least tractors can be equipped to dig that hole. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

...always want more HP. I had a 22' Bayliner, traded it for a 20' ...

When the kids were younger, everybody bugged ya, "Going out this weekend on the water Pa...?" Now, older and a zillion other things going on... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Of course the 2 1/2 - 3 miles per gallon of fuel is part of the dues in that club...

I will go the opposite direction and go from my 20' Bayliner to possibly an 18' Stingray for speed, speed, speed... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Did I mention speed...? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Gosh John, I forgot about that....50 gallon fuel tank in the Bayliner... a few times up and down my favorite streach of the Missouri River and back to the fuel dock. Hmmmm.... that was before I was married, and at that time, who cares? I did like a weekend on the pontoon for $5 in gas....come to think about it, I really don't miss either boat. And now I have two tractors!!!!!
