Hello,

Joined up because I wanted to read up on the many sides of owning a tractor. I have 65 acres, of which I want to clear and use 1-4 next year.

I am new to tractors, be gentle! I started looking around for an older (presumptuously cheaper) make and model with live or independent PTO (still reading on the differences) and 3-point hitch. Wish me luck!

Thanks in advanced all.

:welcome: Homie! Good luck and enjoy all the great info and humor here. Give us some more info on your terrain, slope, trees, etc. and what you want to do specifically. Then you will get more advice than you need!

Clear it of what? 70' tall pines? Scrub? Moose? Mosquitos? We can probably help with 3 of the 4. Pictures help.

Hi neighbor, I live next to Houlton ,so welcome to the forum . As we are in the midst of potato country there are a few tractors around for sure .
Like already mentioned we will need to know what your primary use will be and the type of land you own . Pictures are worth a thousand words, so they say anyways . I would definately want a 4wd as I have had the 2wd and never never again. Good Luck

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I have 60+ acres in Northern Maine, second growth (It was cleared in the late 90s) about 75% of it is flat-ish, with a northern bog out back (which I am hoping is a nice transition zone for critters to hunt).

No pictures yet, they would all be of a white field with brown sticks coming out :D

I'd like clear a small lot adjacent to the old skidder (I'm assuming) road they left behind (that has to be rehabilitated as a driveway) after that there is some flexibility as to what to put in it: Mobile, small cabin, a pad for a camper, etc.

Exciting and overwhelming, specially for an ex-city guy!

Hi neighbor, I live next to Houlton.

Thanks HEC! I've found one so far 'Farmall H' '48 I think. Though I rather have something a little newer than that for the features.

I will add 4WD to my requirements!
