I know this has nothing to do with Bobcat tractors but I am just curious if others on this site are seeing the web pages load very slow? It doesn't matter whether I am at work (T1) or at home (DSL), it is taking me about 53s for a web page to load. I checked a couple other forums on here and they were the same.

I don't have this issue with any other site I go to so there must be something going on with this site.

Are any of you seeing the same?

No problems here......unless I run into a thread with huge picture files.

No problem on cable or DSL. I did have speed problems when I logged on to TBN through AOL.

Hi,

A quick way to check to see whether it may be this TBN site or your connection or other cause, is to look at the very last line of the displayed page that seems to load slowly.

That will be a line like this:

"Page generated in 0.21932 seconds with 14 queries [Server Loads: 1.34 1.46 : 1.54]"

If TBN is having problems, the "Page generated in ... seconds" will be a high number like 5, 10, or more seconds.

If the page loads in a second or 2, or less (most pages load in .5 or less time), then TBN is not the cause.

As most of you know, we run huge volumes of traffic on this site. In fact, I recently noted TBN is ranked in the Top 1,000 web sites in terms of traffic. We are always evaluating our systems, server capabilities and so forth. And, we make adjustments as necessary.

THanks for that useful info Hakim.

On another note, I just replied to a post and got a database error and my reply lost. I'm guessing it got logged, but seems like there might be a site issue.

Congrats on the rankings - that's pretty impressive. The way I see it, sites like this are the new model that will replace a lot of magazines.

Hey
If you're using IE try clearing your History files and Cookies. This may be the cause of slowness problem and database read errors.

thanks kioti - got a note though saying its a know error and they are working on it. Might be different for others, I've had that work before. Or on Firefox, do a who new "identity" (Spacing on the term)

Yeah, we are upgrading servers around December 15-20 so expect performance improvements at that time.

Well, yes I see, and I can reply to this post. but I went back to the same thread and it has no place for reply, quote, etc. I have never seen a thread that was closed with a lock on it.

I can't believe that you have never seen a locked thread when you have posted over 5000 times. I see them all the time and they are usually the first ones I read to see why they were locked.

Threads get locked when they are highly argumentative or when improper language is used or for many other reasons when they don't conform to TBN's Terms of Use.

TBN tries to keep their forums friendly and clean for the entire family and I think they do the best out of all the other forums I have visited. :)

Just how would you find a locked thread. I only found it when I went back to read it again. I tried to find a description of a closed and locked thread and could not. I simply wanted to comment on something or edit my post.

Look in a forum and look at the icons to the left of the list of threads. If there is a padlock icon, the thread has been closed. See the picture attached.

The last icon shows the lock on the envelope.

Hope that helps.

Compliments on a great site Hakim. It is slow at times, but I can understand that with the numbers you mentioned. Keep up the good work.

Had to buy a new PC last night. Got Windows 7 with IE8..This thing screams on TBN. My previous XP machine experienced the same slow access issues that have been described, sometimes a minute or more per page view. The XP got nailed by a malware that blew-up the operating system and some of the hardware. For the moroons who develop viruses and malware, I have a great use for a wood chipper.

I noticed pages loading slow too about 3-4 seconds to get the connected to TBN

But once the task bar said "connected" to TBN it only took about 1/2 second.
