Tractor whispering

Ok, so i think its acceptable to name ones tractors. Its just part of acceptance into ones family group. If your tractor, after naming it, is part of your family should you talk to it? I mean, you dont go about ignoring your wife and never uttering a word no matter how had she works (ok maybe some of us do but thats a different thread)? So why should you do this to a tractor? Afterall it works hard, is easy to run, is heavy, is low maintainence and gives out hot air. Some of these attributes are similar to members of ones family, others are more distant.
From this we can acetain that a tractor is just as prominant a member in a family as those which are spoken to on regular occasions, given encouragement and loved.
So whats the deal, should one communicate with a tractor, atall, on a simlar level to that as other family members or more?
Or am i the only one who talks to machinery? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Come to think of it, many moons ago I had a girlfriend who named her breasts. I had no problem talking to them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Perhaps it's fair to say that once an object is named, conversation should be considered acceptable. However, I'm fully against naming one's halucinations, speaking to them or of them. One has to draw the line somewhere.

I don't think I talk to my tractors...

But I think talking to tractors would be a healthy thing, and I don't know why I don't, unless I do and don't know that I do, thinking that I don't... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I do know that when ( I bet) I was about your age, or maybe younger, I used to talk to my motorcycle. That bike was my friend and I talked out loud to it. Without realizing it actually. So now that I think about it, I may actually also talk to my tractors without realizing it... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My old BMW motorcycle did not have a name though. It was a faithful companion, and actually carried me on its last ride from Spain (where I got off a passenger carrying freightor) to Bangkok, Thailand (14,000 miles for that leg) and around SE Asia a bit, before I sold it...an event that should have brought a tear to my eye...but didn't for some reason... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Now that you brought it up, I kind of find it amusing that back then I had a bike that served me well, that I did NOT name, but which I talked to...and now I have tractors that serve me well, which I have named, but DON"T talk to...

I do suggest though that you keep those conversations private. The first time I realized I was talking to my bike was when someone pointed it out to me...they though someone else was around, while at the same time I did not know they were there...I just laughed and said I am not surprised I talk to my bike...it does more for me than most people do... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif As do my tractors... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Although it is named ("Megabeast") I don't THINK that I have talked to my tractor. ...not that I wouldn't, despite the fact that I'm not much of a conversationalist. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Generally, and particularly when it is at PTO rpm, it is talking louder than I can and I don't think I could get a word in edgewise. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But I sure do like the languages IT speaks; .... all of 'em; FELian, BHese, PHDish, BBeek, to name a few. The loudest is probably C/Su (Chipper/Shredder) which does remind me of a Sikh having an argument with a Pakistani. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Very eloquent in all "tongues." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

While I don't talk to it, I DO feed it all of its favorite treats; No. 1 Deisel and SuperUDT with a Synthetic (yes Mike) heavy duty deisel oil chaser.

i cannot disagree that at PTO rpm the answer is inadudible, if if there were to be one. But it is crushingly lonely mowing for hours at a time so one may be inclined to har things
A friendly word of encouragment every now and again goes a long way. As im sure many of you will have read in other recent posts i also am a firm believer in waxing the tranctors after a hard days work (ha, i havnet even used the kubota and its still had a coat)
Highbeam, i belive it does. and example may be when its hurt is says CRUNCH or BANG and ginds to a halt, kinda like a child crying and falling to the ground when its hurt if you think about it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
having yet to learn the tongues that you describe MadDog i must bow to your skill in tractor whipering. after years of parctice i do consider myself fluent in mowish though. mybe i need more attachments to further improve my language skills.
Im also currently in training to become fluent in the lawnmower ailment language, but still a long way to go.

btw i hope this thread isnt offensive to anyone in any way i aint thought of yet
