Not sure if this was covered or not. I couldnt find any in the search. I was wondering if anyone still uses a rim liner (inside) with a tube? I have a rim that has rust on it and plan to sand it down. But wondered if anyone used these for future protection. I can even find them on ebay. perhaps im not using the correct name for them? Im consideing using an older tube and try to get that to set on the inner rim. Any ideas or perhaps the correct language to use for a search would be nice. Thanks

Why thank you. YES they are expensive for what they are.Being its a tractor tire ( 12.4-24) I think I shall try to make my own from the old tube.Im thinking after sanding the rim (inside) then ill paint with some oil based paint and then while its still wet ill place the rubber protector part right into the tacky paint to hold it in place. I can remember when these were a standard part of using a tube...Thanks for the links I could get anywhere close to what you found.

Do do a REALLY good job, you should sandblast the rim, and apply a coat or two of two part marine epoxy paint.
No other liner would then be necessary.

Thanks. I just came in from doing that. It wasnt to bad to sand. I had sanded and painted it a few years ago.(15) lol I cant find the tube leak either. Ive soaped it etc. I remains filled when its inflated off the tractor but when I put the tube back in and air it up over a week it goes flat. I am thinking possibly its the 'O' ring on the valve. It doesnt bubble with the soap but I am thinking maybe when its on the tractor and fully inflated the pressures make the air work past the O ring. So Im using a new tube and going to see how long the old tube holds air outside the tire. First time Ive run into this situation.lol I would rather have had a distinct hole to patch....

Ok so I have it all set to go back together. Going to give a few days for the paint to dry,,, Seems that the ''old'' tube has no leak in the rubber or around the valve where it meets the rubber. Its held air now (outside the tire) for several days. I replaced the valve with a newer one. I believe that the ''o'' ring was probably leaking when there was the full pressure of the tube in the tire. Looking back I did 'test' the valve to see any leaks and it never bubbled. So If it was leaking there it must be very small.First time in 40 years I have had a bad valve..lol

Re: Liners
I've been told by tractor owners that some highway shoulder mowers often use metal flashing for liners. No personal experience here though. Anyone else heard of this?

I once had a weekly 'flat' problem of getting thorn bush thorns in my front tires, like 15 - 20 punctures per week. I resolved that by going to airplane recaps though instead of trying the metal flashing idea.
