Any comments on using the following on my B7100HST?
Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

It is rated for a max pressure of 2500PSI. The B7100HST relief valve is set for 1500PSI. Will i still be able to split logs? I'd like to avoid having yet another small engine that only gets used once or twice a year.

Thanks,
Jay

I downloaded the owners manual. It has a 4" dia hydraulic cylinder.

If you do the math Pie x radius squared = area of cyl.
3.14 x 4 = 12.56 square inches

then area times pressure = force

12.56 X 1500 = 18840 pounds of force

18840 divided by 2000 = 9.4 tons of splitting power at 1500 psi.

Plenty of power to split most wood.
The small gallons per minute output of the b7100 hydraulics might make the splitter a little slow to run.

Yeah, just do the simple pi math thingy...sheesh

I was all set to make a splitter for my B7100 last year. I did the math for power and speed and tried to come up with a decent compromise on the cylinder size. Then I picked up a 6 ton electric splitter for $125. It seems to work fine for my purposes and takes up very little space. I split a load of hickory last fall. The wood pile is a lot tidier now a days.

running log splitters off old/small tractors is not a good idea. The stroke speed is SO slow that you'll need to be a very patient person.
