Tractor for hilly property......

My wife and I put in an offer for a house that sits near the top of a pretty good size hill......stupid question, but I have been thinking......is a tractor with a low-center of gravity preferable ? I understand that I will need to mow straight up and down, but I am wondering if hills mandate a larger frame tractor, or a smaller, lower one (i.e. sub-cut). I would prefer to keep my 4100, but it is not exactly a wide and / or short tractor. From the rear, it is not wide at all.....the amount of land is 2.07 acres and any input is welcome....thx

IMHO, I would just get some wheel spacers, or reverse your wheels to the oposite sides to get extra width. How steep is the hill? You can guage it fairly easily with a level and a tape measure. Check with your dealer about the stability range of the tractor for rollover, and see if you have a decent safety margin.

A guy here has a bigger JD mower with wheel weights that look to be about 75 lb each. I've seen him with the thing on a hillside close to 35 degrees just mowing happily along. It looked to me like he was going to roll it, but he does it all the time.

Of course, that IS a good reason to get another tractor, like the man said. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
