Tractor Cleaning?

For cleaning the business side of the mower deck I use a long handle barbeque grill brush. You can get them at the Dollar Store for, well, a dollar! Good stiff bristles, most of them have some sort of metal tab that's great for scraping caked-on areas. WD-40 when it's dry helps to keep the deck clean(er) - for awhile anyway. The're also usefull if I have mud/clay that's hardened to the undercarriage or hard to reach places. When it's broken and bent I don't feel bad about tossing it.

I've got the ultimate set-up! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We live right on the fringes of Louisville, Kentucky. We have a semi-rural surrounding, yet all the "comforts" of city life are close at hand. (Including a Hooters Restaraunt with-in eye-sight of my shop!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif) There's a White Castle Hamburgers so close, I've actually drove my Deere 265 lawn tractor through their drive-up lane! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif A Shell truck stop only a few hundred yards beyond our property, and a Stihl/RedMax/Dixie Chopper/Honda/Echo dealer right down the street. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But back to the "clean" issue... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Just about a 2 minute tractor drive from the house, a good friend recently built a very modern drive-through carwash. It has 10 self wash bays also. It's set up for credit cards, as well as "commercial accounts" where he issues a pass code that allows fleet vehicles to wash without a card or coins. Just punch in a 6 digit code#. During the winter months, I keep the snow off of his lot. (As if there's ever snow in the SUMMER months???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) In return, I get a code # that allows me to use the carwash FOR FREE, whenever I need it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif End result...???? I have the cleanest tractors/truck/trailer/equipment/lawn mower around! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The highlight of each trip to the car wash is watching the looks on the faces of all the youngsters in their "cool rides" when I pull up next to them on a FARM TRACTOR!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have used both the corner car wash as well as a personal power washer for years without problems on tractors, auto engines, and lawn-mowers. I always see that any extra water is removed from each before putting them away for the day. I guess it's up to each individual as to "if and how" they elect to remove the grime.

Personally I can't see spending thousands of dollars for any piece of machinery and then leave it out in the elements to rust away but lots of folks do that too.

So have I. I always used a pressure washer to clean all my vehicles, including the engines.

mower decks on my tractors are cleaned 4 or 5 time a year, that is scrapping the crud from the deck so moisture is not allowed to lay there. the tractors them selves are washed and waxed 2 x a year(no pressure washer) engines are not hit with a hose they are hand cleaned. the way i feel is. if you clean your house, clean your car, clean your boat or whatever, why should you not clean your machines?

I try to not get mine overly dirty. If I can't clean it with a spritz of windex and a paper towel , it's been worked too hard /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John

For the last 2 years I've used the Mister Clear Auto dry system. For the most part its easy and safe. Wet down apply soap and reince with soft water..... Its all done with a applacator that attaches to the garden hose. The best part is NO !!! wiping down Plus NO water spot when done.
Give it a try I know most of my friends that have love it.

Mister clean DID NOT Pay me to say this.
You can get coupons on line from www.Misterclean.com
