Tractor Anti-Lock Brakes

This is the way I see it.

Home owners and tractor operators are going to continue to attempt to mow their too steep hills and rolling their tractors until the government mandates more safety devices. If you think safety interlocks are a pain now wait until this one is implemented. It'll make what we have now only look like a preview. I hate to see it but no doubt it's coming.

I wonder if this is NH trying for market share, not abs mandated? I didn't even know tractors had front brakes! Behind, I guess.

Have a look at the tractor/trailer rig in the video. If you go to many countries in Europe that's what you'll find instead of the dump trucks and dump trailers you find here. They run those rigs in traffic at 50mph+ (I'll leave the MPH-KPH conversion as an exercise to the reader) I'm going to bet that that was the main impetus for adding ABS technology to these tractors.

Many large 4wd drive tractors have a mode that when the brakes are used it put the tractor in 4wd to give the effect of 4 wheel braking. This has been an option for at least 4 or 5 years, probably longer.

The trailers in Europe are also required to have air brakes. That is coming here soon as well.

I don't know about trailers such as fifth wheel or goose-necks but wagons in Europe have air brakes as far as I remember. That is at least 50 years back. It would be difficult to stop a wagon heavier than the tractor. Some usually smaller tractors that are used to pull wagons on the roads have so called highway gear, front suspension and four wheel brakes. In example front brakes are standard on Zetors equipped with high speed transmission imported to USA.

What is almost a little scary is these large liquid spreaders that hold 9000+ gallons. These monsters are over 100K when loaded being pulled by a tractor that probably weights half as much. Yes they have brakes, but about once a year or so you read about one going out of control either on or off road.
