Thanks. What's the difference between the round bar style and the trunnion bar style? Both seem to have the same weight classifications.

Ok, so I found out that I want the trunnion bar style hitch. I also found out that the bars are around 30" long. If I measure 30" down the frame of my trailer from where the bar would mount to the hitch, it falls directly in line with the metal cross member that holds the tounge jack. This is welded on and is about 5" wide, therefore, I won't be able to mount the clips directly above the ends of the bars. How much of an angle can the chains come up at before one of these hitches won't work properly? Any other suggestions? If any of you guys know how long your bars are please let me know along with the brand. Thanks.

Try this site and then click on "search" at the top right side of the screen, enter "spring bar length" for the search string, then click on the different setups. According to them, you can have the brackets from 18" to 32" back from the ball, depending on the trailer tongue weight.

Is it better to run higher tire pressure in the trailer tires when towing lots of weight?

CajunRider I'm curious if you ended up doing this tow. If so how well did your truck handle it?

I just finished hauling my DK45 TLB on a 1300 mile round trip from Virginia to NY. With a root rake, standard bucket, loaded rears, chains and binders the load scaled in at 8100 pounds. As the trailer weighed 2700 empty the total load was near 11k.

My tow vehicle is a GMC 2500hd 4x4, crew cab, long bed, 6l gas engine, automatic with toying package. The truck struggled, but succeeded, keeping at highway speed (65 MPH) on some of the grades around Scranton on Interstate 81 but otherwise the truck handled it well. No stopping problems, and the truck controlled the load in cross winds and when maneuvering. I think for that route my truck was the bare minimum for the load. Even on flat roads I would be very uncomfortable using a 1/2 ton.

I made the tow and didn't have any problem at all. Got the tractor on the trailer and did several test brakes to set my brake control where I want it. The thing tows easily since there was hardly any hill. No stopping problem either. Most of the trip was done at 60mph without any issue.
