Hi all,

I am in the market for a small disc to tow behind my Kubota B7510. I will be using it to smooth some assorted ruts and holes out on an irregularly shaped acre of soggy ground. Would I be better served with a tow-behind disc or a 3ph mounted disc?

There are a couple of 4-5' tow-behind discs on CL right now for $100.

Tow-behind pull-types get more weight to the ground and weight (and a lot of it) makes the disk work better.

That has to be the best quote and screen-name combination I've ever seen.

It's hard to beat a pull type disc for performance. Where they lack is with mobility. Tough to beat a 3-point disc there. A good compromise is a wheel disc. They have most of the advantages and few real disadvantages.

Can a pull-type be backed into position like a trailer or is it a forward-only proposition?

Sorta like pushing a rope up a hill, but anything's possible. Straighten out the gangs and backing is a little easier, but for the most part, pull-type disc's are meant to go in one direction

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. I'll go check one out tomorrow.

I have one of each... my pull type is smaller but much more heavy than my 3 point.

So if a guy had a 3pt boom setup or even a PHD frame with the auger removed could you hoist the pull disc up? Or are they too bloody heavy.

My 5' pull type would be too heavy to lift with a pole boom and would really flex between the front and rear disc too much to lift.
